Vitus Nucleus 27 VR

Vitus Nucleus 27 VR – 4x MBR Hardtail of the Year Winner

Don’t be fooled by the price – the Vitus Nucleus 27 VR is not your average entry-level mountain bike. It’s the foundation of the Vitus range and a 4-time winner of MBR Magazine £500 Hardtail of the Year (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019). With low, long, and slack aggressive geometry designed to get you hooked on trail riding, this bike punches way above its class.

Why The Nucleus 27 VR Is The Best Budget Trail Bike?

SR Suntour XCR32 Air 120mm Fork – Real Trail Performance

Unlike coil forks on cheap bikes, you get a real air-sprung SR Suntour XCR32 Air LOR DS 120mm fork with lockout and rebound adjust. Air spring means you can tune sag to your weight, 32mm stanchions for stiffness, and 120mm travel eats up roots and rocks. QR 100x9mm with post mount disc. Internal dropper post cable routing ready for future upgrades.

Box Four 8-Speed Wide Range Drivetrain

For 2021-2022, Vitus upgraded to a true 1x system: Box Four 8-Speed with 11-42T wide range cassette and 32T Samox narrow-wide chainring. Includes clutch-activated wide rear derailleur with limited slip clutch to stop chain slap, Box Four multi-shifter, and 110-link chain. Simple, reliable, huge range for climbs, and chain stays on. No front derailleur to worry about.

WTB Tubeless Ready Wheels & Confidence-Inspiring Grip

Rolling on WTB ST i30 TCS 2.0, 27.5″ tubeless ready rims with TCS tape fitted – just add valves and sealant to go tubeless. Paired with WTB Vigilante Comp 27.5×2.3″ / Trail Boss or Maxxis Ardent 27.5×2.25″ tires (depending on stock) for superior grip in wet and dry. WTB combo is tried and tested for UK and US trails.

Modern Geometry That Rides Like A Big Bike

Built from 6061-T6 Aluminium with BSA threaded bottom bracket for durability and easy servicing, IS disc mounts, and 135mm QR rear. The low, long, slack geo (65.5-degree head angle) gives you stability descending but still climbs well. Only 13.5 – 13.95 kg in Medium. Finished with Vitus and Nukeproof Neutron V2 finishing kit for real trail credibility.
